After an hour and a half of collection, everyone congregated back at the park to sort findings and load materials into their proper bins. Recology graciously offered to sponsor our event again and donated three collection bins in support of the effort. Originally, we planned for two bins, but after seeing all the waste collected, Recology's Jeff Critchfield decided it wasn't enough and hustled to bring us a third bin. After sorting through the days findings, volunteers made their way over to the steelhead lodge for a sponsored lunch and prize raffle. The tri-tip sandwiches were well earned and volunteers were able to cool off in the shade. They also got to learn more about some of the local restoration efforts taking place, courtesy of River Partner's Ruben Reynoso, who took a few minutes to educate volunteers during lunch.
This year, we picked up a combined 1,400 lbs. of waste, of which, 200 lbs. was recyclables. Statewide, there were over 52,000 volunteers who collected 541,431 lbs. of trash and 53,156 lbs. of recyclables. Therefore, although Colusa only had .1% of the volunteers, we collected .24% of the waste, or roughly 2.5 times more per person than the average across California.
Results are still coming in to the California Coastal Commission, so these numbers may change slightly over the next few weeks. For those interested in gathering the latest information, you can do so here; http://www.coastal.ca.gov/publiced/ccd/ccd.html
Thanks to everyone who made this happen and for all 52 volunteers who carved time out of their weekend to get involved in this community effort.
We'd also like to give a special thanks to our sponsors; Premier Mushrooms, Steelhead Lodge, Central Valley Gas Storage, Recology, River Partners and Ink'd Up and Stitched Out. We could not have done it without you guys.

See you out on the river next year!
